The great white shark is the largest predatory fish in the world, measuring an average of 4.5 meters ( 15 feet ) in length, with the largest being thought to be 7 meters ( 23 feet ) in length and weighing 2.5 tons. They were famously portrayed in Steven Spielberg’s movie Jaws as a man-eating shark, but in reality they rarely attack humans, with fewer than 100 documented cases. They are found in oceans around the world, with the exception of Antarctica, where they are mainly found in coastal waters. They are apex predators, and are known for being incredibly effective hunters.
